Frequently Asked Questions

What is this?

Zoomery SummitR is basicially a flickr for the MVP Summit participants. We would love to see MVPs browse and share images they took on the MVP Summit!

How do I browse the images?

You can use the mouse to pan, the mouse wheel or the zoom toolbar to zoom in or out. The zoom toolbar will appear under your mouse if you do not move it for a few seconds (useful if you don’t have a mouse wheel). Clicking on an image allows you to quickly zoom in and focus on that image.
If you zoom in on an image, a panel with information about it will be shown in the bottom right corner of the zoom area. You can click the name of the uploader, or any of the tags to display images filtered by what you have clicked.

Love it, how can I upload my own images?

It is simple, really. First, you sign in with your Windows Live ID, by clicking the sign in button on the left. If this is your first time signing in, you will have to enter a display name. If you already did that, you will be taken straight back to the SummitR application. When signed in, you will see the My Images tab on the left side, allowing you to upload images or manage galleries. You can also edit or delete the images uploaded previously, by zooming in on them and clicking the edit button on the details panel.
Please note that the images you upload are visible to anybody in the world! Do not upload photos with NDA material!

I would love to shake your hand / slap you in the face! Can we meet at the summit?

Yes, definitely, although I'd prefer the handshaking...

I will have an MVP 2 MVP session at the Summit, on Tuesday (16th February) 2:40 PM. The building and room are: Bravern 2/12130-12148 - Cherry & Cedar. Bravern-2 is at 11025 NE 8th, BELLEVUE, WA. The session is in Bravern2 in downtown Bellevue. It’s down the street (8th Ave) toward the Highway (405) from the Hyatt. Ask your concierge.

If you can’t make it to this session, just send a mail to andras.velvart@response.hu, or find me on twitter (@vbandi), and I'll do my best to meet up! In case you have a good facial memory and an exceptional awareness, you can also find me by looking for the face you see on the left.

Tell me some technical details!

Gladly! SummitR is a Zoomery Community Gallery based image repository. Any website (yes, even PHP sites) can integrate Zoomery Community gallery and have their users share photos using Silverlight Deep Zoom. In the case of SummitR, we just created a very small web application that reuses the Live ID you probably already have.

Zoomery Community Gallery is built on top of Zoomery Server, which is in essence a Deep Zoom image server. It processes uploaded images converting them into deep zoom format. Zoomery Server allows for tens of thousands of images to be filtered in any way you wish, thus creating a zoomable scene on the fly. It also features optimized file storage (that greatly reduces the storage required for lots of deep zoom images), and a flexible metadata architecture. The images themselves are displayed by a highly customizable Silverlight application that uses Silverlight's excellent Deep Zoom technology from Seadragon labs.

So, what is this Zoomery thing?

Zoomery is the name of the Deep Zoom frameworks Response developed. Apart from the above mentioned Zoomery Server and Zoomery Community Gallery, another big part of Zoomery is Zoomery Studio, a desktop Deep Zoom generator framework that can turn any digital data into deep zoom scenes. For more Zoomery Studio samples, please visit www.zoomery.com.

Zoomery Community Gallery (ZCG in short) is the name of our deep zoom image server that creates, maintains and serves deep zoom images. for more samples, including a C# browser, a file system browser with documents, please visit the Zoomery homepage.

You surely had some help...

Yes, we are standing on the shoulder of giants. We owe a lot of thankyous for these giants:

Microsoft for giving us .net and Silverlight
The Seadragon guys for giving us Deep Zoom
Peter Gerritsen, for the tag cloud idea and code
